The painting was inspired by the 2021 film Boiling Point. This scene, starring Hannah Walters and Stephen McMillan is shocking and emotional and stayed with me for years, it represents maternal love, friendship, helplessness and forgiveness. Emily is distraught to see Jamie's scars, she steps back and tilts her hip, lip quivering and takes a big moment. Her then implusive, unexpected hug made me burst into tears.  But the embrace, for me, was all about the hands - the strain and tension in her hand starkly contrasted by his limp and appologetic.
